Google Retires AdSense Referral Program

Thursday July 3, 2008

Google will retire its AdSense referral program and will stop serving ads in the referral program at the end of August 2008. Note, this does not affect the Google AdSense for content (pay-per-click) program, just the referral program.

Since Google acquired DoubleClick, the focus will now shift to the DoubleClick Performics Affiliate Program where bloggers can still manually select the ads that appear on their blogs and earn money when visitors select the ads in that program and complete a required action.

You can get more details about the change on the Google AdSense Help Center website.

What do you think about Google dropping the AdSense referral program? Did you use it on your blog? Did you have any success with it? Will you switch to the DoubleClick Performics Affiliate Program? Leave a comment and share your opinions with About.com Web Logs readers.

Hi Susan,

Never made a dime off of the Google AdSense referral program. I must admit, I only added referral ads to a few posts. It’s just much easier to have standard Goog ad code that I cut and paste into posts. Now I’m really glad I didn’t spend more time with their referral ads: It would be annoying to have to go through old posts and remove referral ad code!
