Entrecard is For Sale

Friday September 26, 2008

Entrecard started less than a year ago as a method of generating free advertising and boosting traffic to blogs. It's been quite successful with many bloggers joining Entrecard and dropping their "virtual business cards" at other member blogs to earn credits, which can be used as payment to place an advertising widget on other blogs in the network.

Unfortunately, Entrecard has not been without its problems, not the least of which is the fact that many users try to "work the system" and build Entrecard credits through less than honest methods. Despite its problems, Entrecard has a lot of potential. At its core, it's an interesting idea, but the owner, Graham Langdon, has admitted that he's not the person to take it to the next level. Therefore, Entrecard is up for sale by auction through SitePoint, a popular place to sell and buy websites.

Currently, Entrecard bids are open for a minimum of $100,000, but there is a reserve price that's "under a million dollars." The auction ends in 18 days. What do you think? Will someone pick up Entrecard for close to 7 figures or is that price too high for a site that currently makes $2,000 per month with 85,000 unique visitors and over 3 million page views per month?

Graham should not sell entrecard. There is a lot of potential with entrecard. I am afraid the new owner might let entrecard to die.
