Wordpress Revolution Theme is Now Free

Monday November 3, 2008

The Revolution Theme by Brian Gardner is one of the most popular, easy to use and customizable Wordpress themes available. Revolution themes used to sell for $79 but as of last month, the new incarnation of the Revolution theme is now available to all users free of charge. Brian Gardner offers a variety of versions of the Revolution Two Theme including blog styles, magazine styles, media styles, photo styles, professional styles and video styles, and more. According to Daily Blog Tips, Brian is working on more Revolution Two themes as well.

You can see the power of the Revolution Theme by checking out some sites that already use it. Here are a few examples:

There is also a Revolution Theme blog written by Brian Gardner where users can find updates and helpful information. If you've been looking for a great theme without the high price tag, the Revolution Two Theme is a great option.

Do you know of any other blogs using the Revolution theme or a new Revolution Two theme? If so, leave a comment and share the URLs, so the About.com Web Logs readers can take a look at more examples of what you can do with the theme.

I will agree with you Brian Gardner does a great job with his Revolution Themes. They are very well designed. He has put together a great team and just launched Revolution 2. You can visit my website to view how I’ve used my Revolution Theme for business.

Susan,
Revolution is easily one of the most powerful, customizable, well coded Word Press themes available. I have been working with the theme for quite some time and it is definitely the one I go to first.

Thanks for hiring me to do your site and for featuring some of my sites, too.

Gary, you sure can! That’s the great thing about Wordpress and well designed themes. You can do so much more with them then simply write a blog!

Juliunizeer,

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I wrote this blog post in November 2008. As of January 2009, the Revolution Two themes are no longer free. Instead, they are sold with support bundled in. I received the following link from Brian Gardner for details:

Do you have any experience with the DYI Thesis Theme for Wordpress? I have investigated both but cannot decide which to try.

They both seem to be excellent paid theme package offering tutorials and support to their customers. And both have their loyal followers so it is tough to find an unbiased or non-affiliated review out there.

Any insight you or any of your readers have would be greatly appreciated.

Jeff, I have not personally used the DIY Thesis theme, but I know a lot of bloggers who use it and are very happy with it. With that said, I had the option when I created my KeySplash Creative website to choose between Thesis and Revolution, and I chose Revolution Two. I just preferred the look of it. However, I am in the process of redesigning my http://www.WomenOnBusiness.com blog, and I went with iThemes Flexx Theme. You can read a bit more about all three here: http://weblogs.about.com/od/businessblogging/tp/WordpressThemesBusinessBlogs.htm

The Revolution themes are great. However the Revolution Two themes are no longer Free. :( They’re still GPL licensed, but you have to pay for them now. I don’t really get why you GPL them and then charge for them, but hey whtever.

I did find a site selling like all 15 Revolution Two themes for only $80. Not a bad deal really. http://www.wp-revolution.com Oh, and they don’t provide any support. So you need to know what your doing when it comes to wordpress themes.
