The Top URL Shorteners Put to the Test
If you use Twitter, then you know the value of URL shorteners (follow the link to learn more about URL shorteners).
The team at Pingdom.com published the results of their test of URL shorteners this week. The goal of the test was to find the best and most reliable URL shorteners, and the results might surprise you. Take a look at the rankings below (the lower the score, the better):
- Ow.ly and Bit.ly tied for first place: 2
- Is.gd: 3
- Su.pr: 3.5
- TinyURL: 4.5
- Twurl: 7
- Snipurl: 7.5
- Cli.gs: 7.5
- Tr.im: 8.5
Is your favorite URL shortener at the top of the list? If not, you might want to test out some of the better options according to Pingdom's research (you can read more about Pingdom's analysis and methodology here).
By the way, ever wondered exactly how short URL shorteners make your URLs? Check out the stats here!

With so many shorteners to choose from it is hard to choose just one. Of course your list shows some of the top shorteners out there but I prefer the vanity shorteners like http://sl.ly – Sexy URL. It’s more fun than some of the others.
Sexy URL (above comment)? More fun… what are you talking about, Eze? What the… Anyway, I find that Hootsuite is a good utility and I also sometimes use http://cru.ms to shorten and track stats… both are very useful
If you do affiliate marketing then “bit.ly” is not a good option, until i find another reliable on i just stick with tinyurl.
