Facebook Overview

By , About.com Guide

What is Facebook?:
Facebook is a social networking site originally developed for college students, but it quickly became popular for users around the world from varied demographic backgrounds.
How to Use Facebook:
Facebook is membership based. You can register for a free account, develop your profile, then begin locating other members through the Facebook directory and making connections with people you know. Once connected, you can communicate with another member, upload pictures, share your blog feeds, share your Twitter feeds, join Facebook groups of interest to you, or start your own group.
Facebook Apps:
Some Facebook members love the extra third-party applications that you can download to your Facebook profile. There are fun applications where you can challenge connected friends to movie trivia or "poke" another member to say hello. It's up to you to decide which applications you want to add to your profile.
Facebook for Blog Promotion:
Facebook works well to drive traffic to your blog because it allows you to network with other people who spend time online and may be interested in reading your blog. You can join relevant Facebook groups and announce interesting blog posts, find like-minded bloggers to network with both within and outside of Facebook, and you can announce your recent posts through a message that everyone connected to you can see. Alternatively, you can publish your blog or Twitter feed as part of your Facebook profile.
Bottom-Line:
Facebook is one more place where you can share your content and meet and communicate with people who might be interested in your blog.
