The Early Life of Heather Armstrong:

Heather B. Armstrong was born Heather Hamilton in 1975 to a Mormon family in a suburb of Memphis, Tennessee. She ultimately rebelled against the Mormon lifestyle and moved to Los Angeles where she became a web designer for a dot-com startup company.

Dooce.com is Born and a Job is Lost:

In 2001, Heather began writing a personal blog called Dooce, and the subject matter was, in fact, very personal. In her blog, she spoke not just about her religion, friends and family, but also about her worklife and coworkers. One year after she launched her blog, she was fired because of its content.

The Rise of Dooce.com:

In the years following her getting fired because of her blog, Heather married her current husband and moved to Utah where she eventually had two children. In 2004, she began running text ads on her blog, and in 2005, she added banner ads, too. Also, in 2005, she publicly stated that she made enough money from Dooce.com that it became her family's sole source of income while her husband became newly self-employed. Much of her popularity can be attributed to the buzz created by her firing as well as her entertaining writing style and content.

Dooce.com and Heather Armstrong Today:

In 2006, Heather and her husband formed a business, Armstrong Media LLC, and Dooce.com remains in the top 50 most popular blogs online according to Technorati.
